CITY GOVERNMENT

Every odd-numbered year, three of the six part-time Tucson city council members come up for re-election to four-year terms. In each ward during the primary elections, candidates are selected from each party. But in the general election, all city voters choose from among the candidates in all wards. Every four years Tucsonans also elect a part-time mayor. The city council then selects or retains a salaried full-time city manager.

If you would like to let the mayor and council know what you think about a local issue, you can phone and leave a message on the mayor and council comment line at 791-4700. These messages are transcribed regularly and passed along to all members of the city council.

County Government

In every presidential election year, a full-time Pima County supervisor is elected from each of five districts to serve on the board. In each district, primary elections are used to select a candidate from each political party. In the general election, voters in each district choose from among those candidates. The Board of Supervisors votes to select from among themselves the chairperson of the board.
